Hundred Beggars were arrested on Wednesday at Dopemu, Iyana Ipaja, Akowonjo, Ipaja and Egbeda by the Rehabilitation Department of state Ministry of Youths, Sports and Social Development for causing constituting public nuisance.
According to PM reports, the arrested was made after series of complaints by the residents living at the areas. The beggars arrested were mainly teenagers and youths who abandoned schooling for street begging.
Dr.
Dolapo Badru,Special Adviser to the Governor on Youth and Social Development, warned
residents not to give alms to beggars. He said both the beggars and the
givers are culpable of the offence. The arrested beggars will be charged to court soon.
