Body Language Expert Believes Oscar Pistorius Teary Breakdowns Are Staged

Body language expert Dr Denise Bjorkman analyses Oscar Pistorius every move during his trail in court for the murder of his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp. He Believes his teary breakdowns are 'staged to hide feelings of sickening guilt', 'resting hands on head is involuntary move to reject unwanted information', 'placing hands on genatalia region an indicator of his leaked powerlessness'. He believes that Oscar's choice of 'funereal' black suit is attempt to demonstrate grieving.

The court provides the stage: before and after the death of Reeva Steenkamp. As a body language ‘scientist’ I have had the opportunity to trace his behaviour over the years. I have worked on major court cases and profiled terrorists and corrupt corporate leaders for 30 years.

Staged??

What Oscar has to juggle in court is his three public personas: the boyish wonder he stage-managed for the global media – who will challenge any obstacle and which refutes his disability; the humble, controlled, grieving Oscar for public consumption in the courts and the suave flash Harry, fast cars, gung-ho image of Oscar with adoring women draped on his arm. Now Oscar has to project a complex image of innocence and grief to the mass media and court.

How is body language examined in profiling?

Correct assessment of body language holds its value in being able to discriminate between what social scientists call or molar or molecular behaviour.

The word molar reflects all behaviour and relationship to objects which is controllable.

This would include how he dresses, drops his head and shoulders with self-regulated humility. It is critical that facial muscles do not give emotion away.

Has to project body of innocence and grief
Notice how labile his facial movements are in his sporting moments when he turns on the charm to women and the adoring crowds.

Suddenly in the court room in his first appearance, his face is held in rigid control, sending powerful messages that he wishes to remain inscrutable. Why?

His dark almost black suit and tie against a white shirt is funereal, over the top and in poor taste. This is clearly an attempt to demonstrate grieving and respect for authority – a quality he lacked historically.

Reverts to body protective movements such as bowed head and clasping his ears
In contrast to his past gear, this is not his dressing style. His dramatic, tearful breakdown in court - when the brutal wounds on Reeva’s Steenkamp’s body were discussed - is more likely to be conveniently staged.

I believe such behaviour serves to hide his feelings of sickening guilt and vulnerability. Falseness can be seen in large and dramatically staged movements. Natural grief is demonstrated by smaller close to the body movements because a grieving person withdraws.

It is counter-intuitive to believe our Oscar is smitten with guilt and grief when he was seen by the media after the incident, regularly enjoying an active social life peppered with alcohol supplies.
