Kenyan beauty has revealed on Thursday that she's acquired the rights to adapt the Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie novel Americanah into a film, which she will both star in and produce. The 31-year-old will be teaming up with co-star Brad Pitt's production company along with D2 Productions and Potboiler Productions.
The epic love story tells the tale of young Nigerians Ifemelu and Obinze, whose romance is tested when Ifemelu emigrates to America to get a university education while her boyfriend winds up in London.They face the toughest decision of their lives when they are later reunited in their homeland.
A statement released by the star revealed her utter delight at adapting the acclaimed novel - which was the winner of the 2013 National Book Critics Circle Award for Fiction - for the silver screen.
'It is such an honour to have the opportunity to bring Ms Adichie's brilliant book to the screen,' she gushes. 'Page after page I was struck by Ifemelu and Obinze's stories, whose experiences as African immigrants are so specific and also so imminently relatable. It is a thrilling challenge to tell a truly international story so full of love, humour and heart.'
